New name announcement 2nd February 2022

On 2/2/22, the NFL franchise in Washington will have a new name.

Announcing the reveal date via a pretty ace video, the team also dropped a few sneak previews of the 2022 uniforms and created some disappointment for those in the fanbase who had firmly been behind Redwolves as a potential new identity.

Trademark issues effectively killed the Wolves name, but what might we have learnt from todays news & the photos?

UKHTTW give five quick-fire takes:

  1. The team DID take the Redwolves name seriously and, therefore, we can determine that the fans (or at least those with a social media presence) were listened to.

  2. My guess is that the THREE GOLD STARS on the uniforms represent the District of Columbia flag rather than the three Superbowl victories. And I love them on the jerseys.

  3. Jason Wright is the right man for this side of the business. After a disappointing season, you'd have to be pretty hard-nosed to not show some excitement in the new name announcement and the video was professional with a nice nod to the past.

  4. The uniform colours remain traditional and I am 100% convinced they will meet with majority approval from the fanbase.

  5. Are we edging towards Commanders? That does seem to be gaining traction, and, although not my favourite name, it is pretty solid and would have longevity. But why is Washington Admirals heading to the official website!
